INDIANAPOLIS -The biggest individual need for the Colts was addressed in the second round on Friday night.

Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson was the selection at No. 46 overall in Round Two.

Getting To Know Quincy Wilson

-Why Wilson?

Cornerback was easily the most obvious need for the Colts going into the 2017 NFL Draft. In the previous five drafts for the Colts, D'Joun Smith was the lone cornerback chosen by Indianapolis. Wilson's name often appeared in the first round of Mock Drafts throughout the draft process. He ended up being the third cornerback taken in Friday's second round. Per Pro Football Focus, Wilson's quarterback rating allowed last season was 29.9, the lowest for any SEC cornerback.

-Wilson's Size

At 6-1 and 213 pounds, Wilson has size that you do not typically see at the cornerback position. Chris Ballard has been very specific when talking about the characteristics he wants out of future cornerbacks. Size and length is desired. In the two secondary picks the Colts have started the 2017 Draft with, both guys stand at least 6-1. When Ballard first got to Kansas City in 2013, the Chiefs began a major rebuild of their secondary. The same thing is starting to unfold in Indianapolis.

-Day One Starter?

Robert Mathis announced the selection of Wilson in Philadelphia. In a way, Wilson is going to try to aid the much-needed pass rush help. It would not be much of a surprise if Wilson is the starter when the Colts travel to Los Angeles for Week One. Patrick Robinson was released earlier this offseason. Darius Butler was re-signed but has moved to safety. The Colts need a starter opposite Vontae Davis, who is entering a contract year. Wilson walks into Indianapolis with a golden opportunity to start from Day One.
